How many years have you carried this business along and how did you start?
I started working when I was 15 years old following after my father in a workshop in San Bonifacio. One year ago, we began operating at a new site in Arcole where, apart from the traditional workshop, we also have a modern tyre center (cars, motorcycles, trucks, and agricultural vehicles). In addition, we mount gas systems and tow hooks. Since the beginning of the year we've been an "A Posto" workshop.
For 5 years since 1978, I worked in a workshop in San Bonifacio. In 1984, I took over for my father at the current site. Besides mechanics, we keep busy with pneumatics, air-conditioners, pre-revisions, and sales of new and used cars. My wife, Giovanna, my son, Marco, and Gabriele also help me out in the workshop.

| Does your workshop offer promotions and warrantees? |
The majority of the promotions we offer regard the tyre world whose sector is much more modern and dynamic compared to those of independent workshops where every mechanic has to do for himself. Many of the proposals that we offer clients are done through "Gruppo Driver", which we are associated with. Some examples are: tyre change with a free heater/cooler check, free insurance, "You & Me Agip" points, and discounts to employees of companies that we have agreements with.
By choice and in consideration of the time we have available, we don't offer particular promotions. We work with devoted clients to whom we believe that we should offer quality service; when a motorist returns to our workshop it is a sign of their satisfaction. We perform good warrantee work.
| How do you get in touch with your clientele? |
There are a numerous amount of contacts but those that then give us the biggest satifaction in terms of responses are those that we send, by text message, to nearly 200 registered clients. A connection between database and hoc programs allows us to communicate with the motorists to send them various types of commercial messages. This is a great tool to remain in constant contact with the clientele who shows us that they appreciate the service.
My wife, through the office's databse, stays in contact with our clients reminding them of revision and warrantee expiration dates. The relationship with the clients is done by telephone and by mail. In regards to pre-revisions, the client's cars are put through the interventions that permit them to surpass the Revision Centers checks.

What do you think about the various initiatives of the auto industry in regards to maintenance programs?
The objective is to bring traffic into the dealer and authorised workshops which, for many reasons, is lost. The motorists especially appreciate the material/labour packets also because they think that the original parts are better than aftermarket parts; I have to say that, very often, the original parts cost less than those purchased at the mechanic. This should make them think...
The offers are undoubtedly interesting but you have to consider the commitment of clients when they entrust their car to the auto dealer: they have to make an appointment, have somebody come with them to the workshop, leave the car, and repeat this procedure for pick-up. Without counting the costs. Here everything is much more simple: today the benefits that we offer the motorist make us better than the manufacturer. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

| What do your kids want to do when they grow up? |
Diego is 16 years old and enrolled in Information Technology but hasn't yet decided what he wants to do when he gets older. Matteo, 10 years old, is a big fan of football and has very clear ideas about the future: midfielder for the San Bonifacio football team and then to Inter for a huge career for "black and blue". Forgive me if it's not enough...
Marco is nearly 18 years old, is graduated, and has been in the workshop for a month now; I believe with great satisfaction. Cristian is 13 years old, finished middle school, and will attend scientific secondary school. If everything goes as planned, he will then enroll in mechanical engineering.
| What are your hobbies? If you didn't become an auto mechanic, what would you have liked to do? |
Since I was little and as soon as I was able to come to my dad's workshop, I was in awe when I was in front of a truck and my joy became irrepressible when I was able to sit in the cabin. Because of this, I would have loved to live the life as a driver of a Tir all my own, big, shiny, and rumbling; and then off to drive all the roads of the world without every stopping!
I am satisfied doing what I do, more now that I have the possibility to work with my wife and my son. My hobby is the restoration of vintage cars and motorcycles: I have a '51 Topolino C, a 1970 500 L, a '61 Lambretta 125, and two Vespa 50's, from 1968 and 1978.
